Being a citified body for so long I haven’t been to one of these shows since forever but I had the most amazing fun, it was like an impromtu Spin In with the visitors being the public, the little boys were mesmerized by the wheels, and little girls loved the idea of spinning like the ” OLDEN” days
We even had the odd dog bought in for inspection to see if their wool was soft enough to be spun. While the donkey wasn’t long enough to spin it was very polite when inspecting the wheels.
Our Ladies did really well in the competition entries they were in. The Lady who got first in the spun yarn has only just returned to spinning a couple of months or so ago.
WE must mark this event in our creative fibre diaries for next year, as we can enter more items, with more spinning entries we could help encourage more individual catergories, a perfect place to show off our work. And you felters and weavers would clean up for sure.
While Mr Clip was a show of his own Sharon scored some sun rays while spinning like a princess on the back of his shearing truck. And someone has aquired a Drysdale Fleece much to the horror of our lovely Delegate.

The Red Hill group held a dye day on Saturday 10 October – all done with food colouring.
Roving, top and yarn had been generously provided, along with a collection of food colourings you can purchase from any supermarket. The ones we mostly used were the Queen brand.
Fibre was pre-soaked in warm water with a dash of white vinegar, everything laid out, and then we were into it, experimenting with colours and intensities. Once the fibre was dyed, it was wrapped in plastic wrap (Gladwrap will do nicely), rolled up, put in a plastic grocery bag, and put in a pot to heat through and set the dye.
So easy to do, so much fun, and lots of fibre and yarn to play with at the end of it. Try it out yourself!

Looking forward to this month’s Spin In as we have just have the most amazing two months of fun, with the retreat day in August learning the bead knitting and tapestry weaving on a paua shell. The Open Day just gone, we saw some wonderful button making going on there, and wouldn’t it be lovely to see a bunch of crochet peonies and knitted flowers, along with all the other beautiful creations you’ve been busy with since our last gathering.
So come along and show off.
Dr Mac is able to be available for the spin in for anyone who has a wayward wheel or two, so as to make the most of his valuable time would you kindly email Lyn Walsh to let her know so that she can arrange for him to be there.

We all learned so many new things on the day.
Bouquets of flowers shall be flourishing, tunisian crocheters a new, button makers at large, cast on/off nutters to follow along with a spindle marker or two, then we dyed the odd bit of yarn with food colouring. Not to the mention of delicious soup, buns and muffins.
And most important being able to catch up and spend a day together from across the Auckland Area.
