We held our first Bobbin Lace for Beginners class on Saturday, at our centrally located venue in Western Springs. With 3 students and 2 tutors (and one tutor-to-be), we had a fun and lively afternoon. The class involved making your own bobbins from bamboo skewers, beads and decorative paper, to beginning the first pattern – a Cloth Stitch Bookworm bookmark.
We were all so enthused about this heritage craft, that we decided there and then to form a club and continue! Hello to the brand spanking new Creative Fibre Auckland Lacemakers Club! And we’re going to do it all again…
We will once again be running a Bobbin Lace for Beginners Class on Saturday 19 October, from 1.00-4.00pm, for $30. This includes supplies for the bobbins and lace pillow you’ll make, plus pins and threads for your first project pattern.
This will also be the inaugural meeting of Auckland Lacemakers, so there’ll be plenty of help on hand. There are only 4 places left, so be in quick to book. Email us at firstname.lastname@example.org to reserve your place.
Finally, the tutor-to-be spent an inordinate amount of her weekend playing with bobbins and tackling the next lesson – Torchon lace. Here’s what it looks like – pretty, huh?
